Carolyn’s Creole Kitchen is a food catering service in Oakland, CA. I am the owner, Carolyn Silas-Sams. Since I was nine, I have been working alongside my mother, Leola Duhon Silas, and have now accumulated fifteen years of professional catering experience.

My “real” from-scratch cooking ensures that I can prepare a totally unforgettable meal for you and your guests. However, I strongly believe that I would not be continuing down the path of providing this amazing food experience for many people if it were not for Mrs. Gladys Patterson’s influence.

I was actually considering retiring in a couple of years from Catering, but after Mrs. Gladys Patterson’s 100th birthday celebration with CCK and the extreme kindness she showed me, it got me rethinking my initial decision. She is not a chef, but she was able to make what I do feel so worthwhile for her and her celebrating family members. She has a lovely way of making you see the beauty of life and make the most of it by living it to the fullest. She told me, “I don’t have any allergies or food limitations; let’s eat!” This goes to prove that even at her age, where people usually worry about what they eat, she is still enjoying every moment of it with food she loves. This got me thinking that I should continue doing what I love for as long as I choose to and not let my age hamper this from happening. Her love for life really made me think about my future actions in terms of my catering services. My mom especially loved spending time with people of all ages, elderly and young, and now I am continuing her legacy by learning from everyone around me.
